THE NEXT CHAPTER: Martin Family Motorsports to make Sprint debut in California 305 Sprint Series opener in Bakersfield
NUEVO, Calif. (March 20, 2026) - Speed runs deep at Martin Family Motorsports, and although much of the program’s history has been measured a quarter-mile at a time, the Nuevo, California-based team is set to take a turn with the next generation, ready to take-on California’s competitive 305 Sprint Car scene with 14-year-old Andrew Martin at the helm.
Martin, a former Division 7 Series Champion within the NHRA, will make his competitive 305 Sprint debut this Saturday, March 21, at Bakersfield Speedway at Kern in Bakersfield, California, joining the California 305 Sprint Series presented by Quick Change Liquid Energy. An action-packed campaign, to say the least, the California 305 Sprint Series presented by Quick Change Liquid Energy will host 18 events in 2026, circumnavigating much of the Golden State while visiting such tracks as Tulare’s Thunderbowl Raceway, Santa Maria Speedway, Merced Speedway, as well as the aforementioned Bakersfield Speedway at Kern.
“We’re excited about this new venture and we’re confident this move will bring even more opportunity and growth to Andrew’s career,” Will Martin, Andrew’s father and Team Principal, expressed. “When we decided to make the transition away from drag racing, we felt the 305 Sprint class would not only be more cost effective, but allow Andrew the chance to develop habits and techniques that he’ll carry with him during his entire open wheel career. His throttle control and mannerisms in a race car are relatively fine-tuned, we just have to translate that front straight lines to circles.”
Although the California 305 Sprint Series presented by Quick Change Liquid Energy has yet to host an event in 2026, Martin has been busy testing, garnering valuable lap time at the nearby Perris Auto Speedway in Perris, California.
“We’re excited to hit the road with the California 305 Sprint Series presented by Quick Change Liquid Energy,” Martin continued. “This is a great access point for anyone on the West Coast with aspirations to join a Regional or National Series like NARC, World of Outlaws or High Limit, much like Andrew. The Series, as well as Quick Change Liquid Energy, has done a lot to incentivize teams to travel to their events like better tow packages and bigger purses. It was an easy decision for us.”
Including their sendoff in Bakersfield, the California 305 Sprint Series presented by Quick Change Liquid Energy will host competition on five consecutive weekends to kick-off their 2026 slate, highlighted by a doubleheader at the always-competitive Thunderbowl Raceway on March 27-28. Action will follow at Santa Maria on April 4, Merced on April 11, and a return to Thunderbowl on April 18.
“These are exciting times in California…a true ‘hot bed’ of sprint car racing,” Martin concluded. “ We’re privileged to be a part of it.”
